Overview:
Adámas Nanotechnologies is seeking a quantum optics experimentalist with a background in atomic, molecular, and optical physics to join our team. The primary role will be to advance and maintain our materials characterization infrastructure for diamond production, in addition to contributing to ongoing and future projects on commercialization of quantum sensors based on color centers in diamond. Responsibilities in this hands-on role include implementation of the following characterization techniques to assess the quality of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond: optically detected magnetic resonance, T1 relaxometry, quantum coherence (T2) measurements. Along with implementation of the quantum characterization infrastructure, the candidate will participate in the optimization of the sensing properties of quantum diamond material. Eventually, it is expected that the candidate will lead development and engineering of novel quantum devices based on color centers in diamond in collaboration with our partners from industry and academia. Well-fitting candidates will have a strong drive towards both fundamental scientific research in addition to interest in entrepreneurial activities. Successful characteristics desired include being solution-oriented, organized, self-motivated, detailed, and the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
Minimum Qualifications and Technical Skills:
-Ph.D. in optical, quantum physics, applied physics and engineering, or similar.
-Analog and digital electronics
-Advanced programming (LabView, C/C++, python), data acquisition, signal processing, and control systems
-Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
-Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly
Ideal Technical Skills:
-NV-diamond spectroscopy experience
-Nanomaterial laboratory experience
-Radiofrequency/microwave engineering
-Lasers (CW and pulsed)
-Proficiency in engineering design (solidworks or sismilar) and simulation software (device and optical system).
Expertise areas: quantum optics, quantum entanglement, integrated photonics, optical metrology, and optical spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, RF/magnetic engineering
Responsibilities:
-Design, build, perform, and analyze optics/optoelectronics/photonics experiments to develop cutting edge diamond materials for sensing, timing, navigation, and communication
-Specific tasks include the design, simulation, calculations, and construction of electro-optical experiments and prototypes; data collection and analysis; presentation of the results to team members
-Additional job functions include writing invention disclosures, writing proposals, publishing papers, attending and presenting at conferences, and briefing internal and external customers
Requirements: US citizenship or green card holding.
Position level: Post-doctoral Researcher with pathway to transition to Quantum Metrology Group Principal Scientist based on skills and experience.
