Adamas Nanotechnologies, Inc. welcomes applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead R&D at the interface between quantum sensing and life science needs. This work lies at the frontiers of biomedical research, to demonstrate new sensing methods in biological systems. During this yearlong appointment, you will play a prominent role adapting nanodiamond-based quantum sensors to biological applications as part of NIH and DOE funded research. Our workplace uniquely couples a strong research-focus with commercial value, making the impact of developments tangible. This position provides experience in a commercial environment with customer-facing needs, while still leading cutting-edge research including the opportunity to publish.
Main responsibilities:
Adapt our in-house quantum sensing setup to run measurements on biological samples.
Further advance the design, simulation, calculation, and construction of electro-optical setup involving microfluidics
Run baseline experiments via established technologies
Collect, analyze and present data to team members
Write invention disclosures, write proposals, publish; papers, attend and present at conferences, and briefing potential customers
About you:
Successful candidates will have a STEM Ph.D. and experience/comfort with biology and physics. The following specific knowledge and practical lab skills will be valued:
Bioassays, cell culture, and good biological technique
Microfluidics (assembly and operation)
Commercial imaging systems (e.g. plate reader/fluorescent microscopes/UV-Vis)
Custom optical system/instrument construction
Analog and digital electronics
Radiofrequency/microwave engineering
Advanced programming (LabView, C/C++, python), data acquisition, signal processing, and control systems
NV-diamond spectroscopy experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Opportunity Overview
Adámas Nanotechnologies, Inc. is seeking a quantum optoelectronics engineer. The primary role will be to assist in designing and assembling a commercial prototype of a modular instrument to utilze quantum sensors based on color centers in diamond. This role will consist of miniaturization and packaging current pre-commercial device prototypes. Examples of techniques used in these devices include: optically detected magnetic resonance, T1 relaxometry, and quantum coherence (T2) measurements. Successful characteristics desired include being solution-oriented, organized, self-motivated, detailed, and the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
Expertise areas: quantum optics, integrated photonics, optical metrology and optical spectroscopy, RF/magnetic engineering, packaging, EMI/EMC qualification
Responsibilities:
Define product specifications
Specific tasks include the design, simulation, calculations, and construction of electro-optical prototypes; data collection and analysis; presentation of the results to team members
Additional job functions include writing invention disclosures, writing proposals, publishing papers, attending and presenting at conferences, and briefing internal and external customers
Maintain the bill of materials for the instrument system
Develop and maintain software version control
Support and troubleshoot fielded systems
Minimum Qualifications and Technical Skills:
B.S. in applied physics, electronic device engineering, optical, or similar.
Analog and digital electronics
Advanced programming (LabView, C/C++, python), data acquisition, signal processing, and control systems
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly
Ideal Technical Skills:
Radiofrequency/microwave engineering
Laser Pulsing (CW and pulsed)
Proficiency in engineering design (solidworks or similar) and simulation software (device and optical system).
EMI/EMC Certification
NV-diamond spectroscopy experience
